Three Icons

Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra pay tribute to three of the greatest female icons in modern music history in a special concert, Clouds In My Coffee! Joni Mitchell, Carole King and Carly Simon are three of the most influential songwriters of the past 50 years, with their music not only enduring today but going on to inspire many of the 21st century's greatest songwriters. 

All coming to prominence in the 1960s and 70s the three musical pioneers all in their own way played a part in revolutionizing music. Joni Mitchell's hauntingly poetic lyrics dominated folk and pop music of the era, with iconic albums such as Blue and Court and Spark. Carole King was both a prolific songwriter for other artists in the famed Brill Building as well as a singer in her own right, capturing the hearts of millions with her timeless hits such as "You've Got a Friend" and "Natural Woman," while her album "Tapestry" remains one of the best-selling albums of all time. Carly Simon's introspective songwriting brought her widespread acclaim, with chart-topping hits like "You're So Vain" and "Nobody Does It Better," cementing her status as one of the defining voices of the singer-songwriter era.
