The Diary Of Black Men

The Diary Of Black Men at Benedum Center

Why see The Diary Of Black Men?

A Powerhouse, A Phenomenon

An experience that's more than simply theatre, meet the men you know and uncover the truths you don't with a movement that has electrified audiences for over four decades. The Diary of Black Men:How Do You Love a Black Woman isn't just the longest-running African American stage play in history; it's a cultural phenomenon

A Story That Speaks To The Heart

Written by Thomas Meloncon, The Diary of Black Men is a reflection of the conversations our communities have been having for generations about the raw realities of being a Black man in America. First penned in the late '70s and continuously updated to stay relevant, it's as timely now as its debut.

What's The Plot?

The play pulls no punches in its portrayal of six distinct Black male stereotypes: The Player, The Blue-Collar Worker, The Militant, The Intellectual, The Black Muslim, and The Pimp. Each of these men is complex, each flawed, and each trying to navigate his way through relationships with Black women. At the heart of it all is a powerful female presence - silent yet profound - whose dance speaks volumes about the resilience of Black women. Watching these men interact with her, and with each other, challenges us to confront the truths and lies we tell ourselves about identity and love.

Who's The Cast?

The production stars actor-comedian JCann, comedian Ben Jackson, actor Phoenix Jackson, actor Teddy Ames, actors Derek Thompson, Carlo Campbell, Robert Murray and dancer Evelyn Ebo.
